History of Boudoir Photography

July 10, 2012 By Jamie Kembel

History of Boudoir Photography

English Pronunciation: bu:d:wa:r

Originates from a French verb “boudeur”, meaning sulky.

Boudoir photography is not a very new concept. Hollywood stars such as Jean Harlow, Mae West and Kathleen Meyers were photographed in a boudoir style.

There are a few different genres of this type of photography; glamour photography, nude and erotic. I think we can all remember the typical cheesy glamour shoots from 20-30 years ago. Thankfully it has come a long way since then and has gained immense popularity in recent years.

Nowadays Boudoir photography has become trendy and fashionable, creating classy and sensual images of women where nudity is implied than explicit.

Boudoir photographers around the world strive to offer women of different ages and sizes a unique opportunity to show off their unique beauty through modern and tasteful boudoir portraits. They also offer an experience to remember for each woman, it is fun, empowering and is a great confidence booster suitable for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, Valentine’s Day, weight loss, maternity and forms of body alterations or just because!

Boudoir sessions are typically shot in a studio or a luxury hotel suite with natural beautiful lighting, flattering poses, makeup, hair styling and digital retouching.

Women all around the world spend endless amounts of time and money pampering themselves to feel beautiful inside and out. Boudoir photography allows women to capture and document their beauty to value for a life time.
